Flooding in Selangor on Nov 17 due to heavy downpour

SHAH ALAM: The heavy downpour that has hit Klang, Shah Alam, Puchong and Kajang since midnight on Thursday (Nov 17) has led to a landslide and rising water levels in several areas.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said among the areas, where water has risen are Jalan Landasan Kampung Bukit Kuda, Taman Sentosa, Taman Chi Liung, Teluk Pulai and Taman Maznah in Klang along with Kampung Sri Aman and Putra Height Harmoni 1 in Puchong.

"We also detected water rising in Taman Pasir Mas, Jalan Seroja, Jalan Reko and Taman Teknologi Kajang in Kajang, Bukit Lanchang, Taman Sri Muda and Jalan Kebun in Shah Alam as well as Kampung Sungai Pening and Sungai Lalang in Semenyih," he said in a statement on Thursday.

Norazam said the state department operations centre received several calls about floods at 12.26am.

"A total of 130 officers and personnel as well as 20 boats, four lorries, 10 utilities and eight fire engines were deployed to flooded areas and the landslide," he said.

He added that as of 3.30am, more than 31 victims have been relocated to temporary relocation centres (PPS) due to rising water levels in their housing areas, he said.

"Three PPs were opened at Masjid Kampung, Johan Setia, Bandar Bukit Tinggi 2 and SK Ulu Semenyih," he added.

Norazam said the Jalan Landasan Kampung Bukit Kuda, Klang is the area with the deepest floodwater at 0.6m while the most shallow floodwater is at Taman Sri Muda, Jalan Kebun and Kampung Bukit Lanchong at 0.3m.

"Besides flood victims, we also focus on assisting senior citizens and the disabled. Operations are still ongoing as of 4am. We also detected that water levels have started to go down at several locations after the heavy rain started to subside," he said.

Norazam said department personnel also assisted in rescuing four victims from a landslide, which occurred behind a double-storey terrace house in Taman Sri Jelok, Kajang.

"No one was injured during the incident," he said.
