Parliament is not like school, other duties require my time too, says Hadi on his low attendance

KUALA TERENGGANU: Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang says that his attendance in Parliament was low because he needed to attend to other duties.

"Parliament attendance is not the same as school, people don't understand that," said the PAS president.

"Ministers will not sit and wait. They will provide the answers needed and once done, they attend to other duties outside.

"I don't think it will affect us because they (the voters) know that I have other special duties.

Abdul Hadi was previously criticised for being one of the MPs with the lowest attendance record in Parliament.

A graphic making its rounds on social media shows that of 89 days Parliament sat, Abdul Hadi only attended 28.

Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had the lowest with 24 days.

Abdul Hadi also said he had already proven himself and wanted the younger generation to have more Parliament involvement.

"I once gave a speech for two hours and have even been the Opposition head – all that has been documented.

"If I give my debate, the younger generation will have fewer opportunities," he said.

He also expressed satisfaction over the performance shown by all PAS MPs.

Meanwhile, Abdul Hadi, who is defending his Marang seat, said it was even possible to increase his winning vote majority.

He said factors such as the internal Umno crisis and the fact that many of their leaders had joined Perikatan Nasional.
