BENTONG: Locals in Bentong are sending their sympathies to Pakatan Harapan candidate Young Syefura Othman following a social media post revealing a recent miscarriage she suffered.
Barisan Nasional’s candidate for Bentong Tan Sri Liow Tiong Lai also conveyed his sadness to Young Syefura.
The former transport minister was supposed to launch his manifesto for Bentong yesterday morning but took time aside to personally convey his best wishes to Young Syefura at her operations centre, located just behind Wisma MCA here.
Liow walked over to DAP’s Bentong operations centre with an entourage of leaders, among them Pahang liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Hoh Khai Mun, Penang MCA chairman Datuk Tan Teik Cheng and party spokesperson Wong Siew Mun, who is running in Bilut.
However, Young Syefura was not there and a staff member greeted Liow.
Liow conveyed his sympathy and her officer thanked the former MCA president.
“Thank you very much. As an ex-minister, that’s very nice,” said the unnamed staff.
In a Facebook post, Liow said he was saddened and sent his best wishes to Young Syefura.
“I just heard the news about your miscarriage. I would like to express my message of sadness to you and your husband.
“I hope you will rest and recuperate well. I also hope you and your family will continue to stay strong against these challenges,” he wrote.
In response, Young Syefura thanked Liow for his concern and apologised for being absent during their presence.
“I really appreciate it. Sorry for not being at the operations room (during your visit) as I am resting at home,” she tweeted.
Young Syefura, who just turned 33, posted on Instagram yesterday that she was eight weeks pregnant but the foetus stopped growing after six weeks.
It was later confirmed that she had suffered a miscarriage. She had wanted to announce her pregnancy after the general election.
According to Young Syefura’s campaign schedule yesterday, the Pakatan parliamentary and state seat candidates were slated to hold a press conference at 2pm.
