Taylor’s University rose from Asia’s Top 100 universities to become Top 50 in just two years

TAYLOR’S University makes its mark as the only private university in South-East Asia to enter the top 50 universities list in the recent QS Asia University Rankings 2023.

The institution continues to accelerate its vision of being the best Malaysian private university in Asia – exemplified by yet another sterling achievement as the institution improved its performance by moving from 53 in the previous year to 49.

The university has had a steady gain and rose from being one of Asia’s Top 100 universities to becoming Top 50 in just two years.

Taylor’s University saw growth in eight indicators scores including academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty student ratio, citations per paper, paper per faculty, international student, inbound exchange students and outbound exchange students.

The latest achievement is a cherry on top to end the year, as Taylor’s University also grew in the QS World University Rankings 2023 to place #284 and claimed its position as the top private university in South-East Asia for three years in a row.

Taylor’s University vice chancellor and president Professor Michael Driscoll said the rise in rankings for Taylor’s is exceptionally gratifying especially given the increased level of competition locally and globally.

He said the recent achievement in the QS Asia University Ranking 2023 is a watershed moment for the university as it is a testament to the quality of its academic programmes and learning delivery as well as the calibre of the institution’s faculty members and students.

“Taylor’s rise in the QS Rankings demonstrates our commitment in driving our long-term goal of pursuing balanced excellence in education. These achievements set a strong foundation for us to attract the best students and staff, collaborate with the best partners globally, and produce quality graduates,” said Prof Driscoll.

This includes the option to pursue a postgraduate programme to upskill in the same career path, or to venture into another journey by reskilling.

However, many want to do so without having to leave their full-time job or compromise time with family.

That is the case with Krithika Chandrashekar, who is currently pursuing a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning with Taylor’s University.

After a nine-year work hiatus to raise a family, Krithika decided that she wanted to continue studying and was looking for a postgraduate course that was doable amid her busy schedules.

With the flexible study arrangement, she is able to juggle studying and being a full-time stay-at-home mother. Krithika made sure that she was always there for her sons and worked on her studies when they were at school or after they have gone to bed.

She said that eventhough the submission of assignments can sometimes be tough, it has been enjoyable.

“It feels good to be back in school again! I am surely the oldest student in my class, but I definitely feel the same enthusiasm to learn that I had when I was younger.

“I would absolutely encourage anyone wanting to pursue their studies after any amount of break they have had. The flexibility of the postgraduate programmes at Taylor’s University makes it relatively easy and doable.

“With the fully online approach now made available, it would be so much more convenient for those with busy schedules as the programme is tailored to working adults, and those with commitments at home, whether they are in Malaysia or anywhere around the world,” Krithika said.

While many may be concerned with handling their studies on their own, Taylor’s community provides continuous support to ensure the success of each student.

According to Krithika, the staff at Taylor’s have been very helpful.

“They are always available to give support and are willing to learn from us students alike.

“I was told about this course by a working mom who is now a full-time teacher.

“She encouraged me and I have followed suit. Now I hope many more will do so too, as I feel enriched with the learning experience.”
