GE15: KJ refutes Zahid, says Sg Buloh was his only choice

SUNGAI BULOH: Khairy Jamaluddin says that he had no other choice and "had to do something on his own" to find a parliamentary seat to contest after he learnt he would not be defending his Rembau seat in GE15.

"In reality, I didn't have any other choice because the party leadership didn't give any indication to me where I should go (to contest in)," said the Barisan Nasional candidate for the Sungai Buloh constituency.

"I was left alone and knew I had to leave the Rembau seat. I took my own initiative to meet Selangor Umno chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar and MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran,"

Khairy said this when refuting Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's statement that Khairy had personally requested to contest in Sungai Buloh.

"There were signals from the party leadership and I was not invited to any seat discussions. Nomination day was approaching and I had to do something for myself," said Khairy, adding that he chose Sungai Buloh after being told there were only two or three parliamentary seats left as options at that point.

The three-term Rembau MP declined to comment further, saying he did not want to quarrel with Ahmad Zahid and would work on winning Sungai Buloh for Barisan.

Khairy said this during a visit to SME Aerospace, a company that manufactures components for aircraft in Jalan Kuala Selangor, Sungai Buloh on Thursday (Nov 10).
