GE15: Raub not an easy seat, says Dr Ng in defending Chong’s candidacy

RAUB: Tan Sri Dr Ng Yen Yen has defended Datuk Chong Sin Woon’s candidacy for Raub, questioning the Opposition whether the seat was easy to contest in the 15th General Election.

The former minister and Raub MP also refuted claims that Chong, who is MCA secretary-general, was a “parachuted” candidate from Seremban, Negri Sembilan.

"The Opposition keeps saying Sin Woon has been recycled from Seremban to Raub now.

"They think Raub is (an) easy (seat) to fight? It is not an easy seat, which is why MCA is sending a heavyweight here," she said during a meet-and-greet session with supporters at Kampung Baru Sempalit here on Wednesday (Nov 9).

Dr Ng, who is also a former MCA vice-president, said that Chong, who holds an important post in the party, would be hands-on to serve the people.

"Sin Woon has been vocal about issues affecting the people. We need leaders like that, one who can bring the people's voices at the local and federal government's levels.

"He's also a young leader, who is not afraid to fall as he will always get back up," she said.

Considering the support from the Chinese new village has not been overwhelming over the years, Dr Ng called on voters to see clearly the combination of candidates they want to vote for this time.

"Now, for the Tras state seat, we have Lim Teck Hoe, who is a local and familiar face to almost everyone.

"He is versatile, capable and he won't let the people down," she said.

Dr Ng added that when Lim is paired with the Dong candidate, who is the Pahang Mentri Besar's aide, they would benefit Raub greatly.

Dong is one of the three state seats under the Raub parliamentary constituencies besides Tras and Batu Talam.

In Dong, the contestants are Fadzli Mohamad Kamal (Barisan Nasional), Tengku Shah Amir Tengku Perang from Perikatan Nasional, and Mohd Abd Jawaad Abd Ghafar @ Ramzin (Pakatan Harapan).

Batu Talam is contested by Abdul Aziz Mat Kiram (Barisan), Ahmad Sabri Mat Dui (Perikatan) and Shahuddin Abdul Rahman (Pakatan).

Dr Ng also called on the people to vote for their future and not the candidates.

"Every country has its own problems, now's the time we take care of our family and tackle issues at home first," she said.

"Don't miss the chance to be served by the young and capable MCA candidates, who are ready to bring forward the people's voices," she added.

Chong is up against incumbent Tras assemblyman Chow Yu Hui from DAP (Pakatan), Norkhairul Anuar Mohamed Nor from Parti Pejuang Negara (GTA) and Datuk Mohd Fakrunizam Ibrahim from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Perikatan) in the Raub federal seat.

In Tras, Lim is in a four-cornered fight with Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji (Pakatan), Amirul Mukminin Kuek Abdullah (Perikatan) and Mohd Tahir Kasim (GTA).
