GE15: Khairy says wants to be PM someday, but not right now

BARISAN Nasional candidate Khairy Jamaluddin has declared his intention of leading Malaysia someday in future by becoming the Prime Minister and Umno chief, should he win the Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election (GE15).

However, he was quick to add that the time was not now, as Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob would be Barisan’s candidate for prime minister when the coalition wins the GE15.

“I am now 46 years old so I can still wait. But I want to signal to the party (Umno) that I am ready (to be prime minister),” the Umno politician said.

"If people in Sungai Buloh vote for me and I win the constituency, I can declare that I walked into the lion’s den and won the seat for Barisan in GE15. I want to lead the country and I want to lead the party.”

Khairy said this at a “Kata Janji KJ” (KJ’s Promises) ceramah held at a community hall in Saujana Utama, Sungai Buloh on Tuesday (Nov 8) night.

He acknowledged that it would be a tough fight for Sungai Buloh, which R. Sivarasa from PKR won by 26,634 votes in GE14.

“Leaders have to get out of their comfort zones, or else they can’t take the country to greater heights. There must be challenges in life. I did not come to Sungai Buloh to lose; I came to win.

“Despite whatever possible tactics Pakatan Harapan might use, Barisan will remain a gentleman and win the seat with dignity.

"People don’t want to hear about personal attacks or slander, they want to know what their elected candidate will do for Sungai Buloh.

“I will be the ‘fighter for Sungai Buloh’, someone willing to champion issues for the people here,” said Khairy, adding that he was willing to highlight issues in Sungai Buloh on his social media accounts that have more than five million followers.

He said there was a need for a “check and balance” system in Sungai Buloh, and that he was willing to work with Opposition politicians for the betterment of people.

Khairy said this in reference to possibly having to work with the Paya Jaras and Kota Damansara assemblymen, both of whom are from PKR and under the Pakatan Harapan-led state government.

If elected as Sungai Buloh MP and appointed as Health Minister again, he said: “I want to establish a training centre and job matching centre for youths in Saujana Utama.

“There will be coaching classes not just to teach them English, but also computer science so they can be computer programmers.

“I will fight to ensure public facilities in Sungai Buloh are disabled-friendly so the disabled can live independently and to build a special centre for children with autism,” said Khairy, whose second son was diagnosed with autism.

“I hope to offer domiciliary care for patients who are bedridden or have limited mobility. This is so that they don’t have to go to health clinics for treatment and to ease their caregivers’ burden.”

Domiciliary care refers to a range of services put in place to support an individual in their own home.

The Sungai Buloh parliamentary constituency will see a seven-cornered fight this 15th General Election.

The other contenders are Ramanan Ramakrishnan (Pakatan Harapan - PKR), Mohd Akmal Mohd Yusoff (Gerakan Tanah Air - Pejuang), Ahmad Jufliz Faiza (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) as well as Independent candidates Nurhaslinda Basri and Syed Abdul Razak Syed Long Alsagoff.
