Dr Wee says sorry, intensive effort being taken to resolve LRT service glitch

AYER HITAM: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has expressed his sympathy and apologised on behalf of the government over the Kelana Jaya Light Rail Train (LRT) service disruption in Kuala Lumpur.

The Transport Minister said he has been keeping close contact with Prasarana to get to the bottom of the matter.

He said the Transport Ministry’s role was to regulate the safety aspects of the train service.

“Nevertheless, I feel sorry for the problems caused and I, too, share the grievances of the LRT users.

“But I can assure all the users of the LRT and other Prasarana services that I have been checking closely with its management and officers under my ministry to get to the bottom of this,” he said in a press conference here after an event with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on Wednesday (Nov 9).

Dr Wee added that while waiting for the special team from the original equipment manufacturer Thales Group from Toronto, Canada to arrive, Prasarana would be engaging an independent third party consultant to find a solution to the issue.

“We cannot rule out any possibilities and even if there is 1% of risk for the train service to resume operations, we are against it as we do not want a repeat of a train accident,” he added.

The Kelana Jaya LRT line service between the Kelana Jaya and Ampang Park stations has been suspended until Nov 15 for safety reasons and time needed to identify the cause of the service disruption.

Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd (RapidRail), in a statement Wednesday (Nov 9), said the Kelana Jaya LRT service will only operate from the Gombak station to the Damai station and from the Lembah Subang station to Putra Heights.
