Bikers who overturned car at Pasir Gudang petrol station plead guilty to rioting


JOHOR BARU: Seven men, including four p-hailing riders, pleaded guilty at the Magistrate's Court here for rioting and turning a vehicle upside-down at a petrol station last Thursday (Nov 3).

The accused, Muhammad Adam Abd Rahim, 18; Mohamad Hairul Hasraf Seeni Abdul Cader, 22; Morrisson Malvin Anak Mada, 19; Shaikh Al Amin Idrus, 21; Nur Khairul Amal Abdul Harsir, 19; Daniel Haziq Syikhanna, 21; and Romie Rahimi, 41; entered the plea after the charges were read to them before Magistrate Hidayatul Syuhada Shamsudin on Monday (Nov 7).

According to the charge sheet, all of the accused damaged the windows and doors of a car belonging to a 21-year-old man before turning it upside-down.

The damage was done by punching, kicking, hitting with a helmet, and throwing stones before they collectively turned the vehicle over and caused damage worth RM15,000.

The offence was conducted at a petrol station in Kota Masai 2, Jalan Nenas in Taman Kota Masai, Pasir Gudang at 9.40pm on Nov 3.

The accused were liable under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief, which carries a maximum five-year jail term, a fine, or both upon conviction.

The case was prosecuted by deputy public prosecutor Nur Aqiilah Ahmad Rofaie while all the accused were not represented.

During the prosecution, Nur Aqiilah informed the court that the matter was a non-bailable offence; however, if the court were to allow bail, she suggested the sum of RM10,000.

Besides the four p-hailing riders, the other three are a washing machine technician, an online cap seller, and a college student.

The court then allowed bail at RM7,000 for each of the accused with one surety and an additional term not to disturb the witness or the victim, and to report to the nearest police station every month.

The court also set Dec 18 for next mention and sentencing. As at 2pm Monday, all the accused had yet to post bail.

Earlier, on Nov 4, police arrested nine people involved in a commotion that broke out at a petrol station in Kota Masai, Pasir Gudang.

Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the suspects, who are between 16 and 41 years old, would be brought to court to be remanded.

The commotion happened after an accident involving a motorcycle and a car, where both victims suffered light injuries but were stable.

"Following the accident, a group of unknown men attacked one of the victims by damaging and turning his car upside-down," said Supt Mohd Sohaimi.
