GE15: Diva AA backs out of Gombak fight, says late mother told him not to contest

PETALING JAYA: Azwan Ali - also known as Diva AA - has pulled out from the Gombak parliamentary race in the 15th General Elections (GE15).

MStar reported that the 56-year-old Mohamed Azwan Ali said that his late mother came to him in his dreams and told him not to contest.

“Mak Tom comes into my dreams often, and she advised me to not contest in GE15. I always visit her grave to pour out my heart, and I know she is listening,” he told reporters at the nomination centre at SMK Sg Pusu in Gombak on Saturday (Nov 5).

He said that he only finalised his decision in the early hours of Saturday morning, and also thanked Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amiruddin Shari for his support.

“Like I mentioned, I decided not to contest early in the morning and I express my gratitude towards Amiruddin, who was not aware of my decision,” he said, adding that he will support the state Mentri Besar.

Azwan was set to compete against his brother, incumbent MP Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.

Azmin is now up against Amiruddin, who is running on a PKR ticket.

In the 14th General Elections, Azwan also contested against Azmin for the Bukit Antarabangsa seat but lost his bid as an independent candidate, as he managed to garner only 90 votes.

Azmin won the Gombak seat in 2018 with 75, 113 votes.
