KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman is paying close attention to 52 hotspots identified nationwide during the campaign period for the 15th General Election (GE15), says Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani (pic).
The Inspector-General of Police said police identified the hotspots after earlier going through 292 potential flashpoint locations around the country.
"The Special Branch department studied and filtered the list of flashpoints where incidents that could disrupt public order could happen before identifying 52 hotspots that will be focused upon.
"Hotspot is a term used by the police to describe areas where incidents that could disrupt and jeopardise public order could easily occur.
"It is not only caused by problems involving political issues but it could also be disagreements between residents of a locality such as jostling for parking spaces or seats at a restaurant or even racial issues," he told reporters after visiting the Bukit Bandaraya Community Centre nomination centre for the Lembah Pantai Parliamentary seat on Saturday (Nov 5).
The IGP said while some unexpected problems could be considered trivial, it could lead to bigger problems if it is not curbed early.
"Since Parliament was dissolved, we received 115 police reports involving 24 incidents in connection with political issues.
"I have instructed the Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order department director to compile the daily statistics and update the public from time to time," he said.
Earlier, the country's top cop visited the nomination centre and monitored the nomination process.
"I received information from all around the country that the nomination process have gone well with all candidates and their representatives following the rules and regulations," he said.
Among others who were at the nomination centre were Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim and his deputy Deputy Comm Datuk Yahaya Othman.
