GE15: Cops fire tear gas as supporters cause a ruckus in Tenom

KOTA KINABALU: Police fired tear gas at political supporters who caused a commotion after Parti KDM’s president Datuk Peter Anthony’s nomination papers were rejected in interior Tenom.

A huge group of supporters carrying party flags could be seen running and shouting in anger outside the nomination centre.

They were also seen pushing through light strike force personnel on duty at the scene.

Police officials had to fire tear gas to disperse the rowdy crowd when they apparently refused to back off and stop their commotion.

Anthony managed to run into the centre amid the chaos.

One of Anthony’s aides said Anthony’s nomination was objected to by a candidate, causing him unable to get his nomination papers submitted.

It is said that Anthony is still trying to negotiate with election workers to be a candidate for the Tenom parliamentary seat.
