I'm Muafakat Nasional president, reveals Annuar

PETALING JAYA: Incumbent Ketereh MP Tan Sri Annuar Musa, who was dropped from the Barisan Nasional list of candidates, has revealed a new card up his sleeve to show that he probably has a vehicle to run under in the 15th General Election although he has not been chosen by Umno.

Unbeknown to most, Annuar said that he had registered a party with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) named Muafakat Nasional (MN) dated Sept 19, 2019 with himself as the president and the office bearers made up of his close aides.

He shared the pictures of the party registration under ROS in a Facebook post of his on Wednesday (Nov 2).

However, the glitch is that a check with the Election Commission (EC) showed that the registered party MN had no registered logo under the EC and it would be unable to run in the elections without one.

"If EC has no registration of any logo under Muafakat Nasional or MN and if the party wants to run in the polls, the office bearers should register the logo with EC. However, time is running short as nomination day is this Saturday (Nov 5)," said a source.

On Nov 2, as rumours abound whether the Communications and Multimedia Minister would stand under the Perikatan Nasional ticket, Annuar posted pictures of a certificate of a party named Muafakat Nasional with a Klang, Selangor address.

Along with the certificate, the office bearers' list showed Annuar as the president, Datuk Shahrul Nizam Yunos as the secretary and Wizanie Zerith Shah Putra Shahrul Nizam as the treasurer.

The other committee members include his political secretary Datuk Budiman Mohd Zohdi, his private secretary Datuk Mohamed Azam Ismail and his press secretary Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz.

Tun Faisal was suspended recently for six years as an Umno member after he criticised Barisan chairman and Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Muafakat Nasional is widely known as a loose coalition between Umno and PAS which went sour after the latter joined Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia in the Perikatan Nasional.

Umno and PAS leaders had always maintained that that loose coalition was never officially registered.

Further checks showed that this loose coalition and the MN certificate had nothing to do with each other.

PAS leaders had yet to respond to queries as to whether they were aware of the party registered by Annuar.

Annuar, an Umno MP who had not been in the good books of Ahmad Zahid, was among the four ministers dropped during the Barisan candidates' unveiling event on Tuesday (Nov 1).
