GE15: Still a way for parties that share our goals to work with Warisan, says Shafie

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan has never shut the door on cooperating with anyone, especially Sabah's local-based parties, says Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

The Warisan president said although Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) had made it clear it does not wish to work with Warisan, there was still an opportunity to make that happen.

“We don't close our door to anyone. However, if you don’t want to work with us, don’t call us a PTI (pendatang tanpa izin, or undocument immigrants) party,” he said during a late function on Sunday (Oct 30).

His remarks came in response to former PBS president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan’s latest call to voters to vote for local parties.

He said Kitingan is a respected leader and a friend, but he has no power to make any decisions for the party.

“The one with the power is Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili, the president,” he said.

Shafie added that PBS, as a KadazandusunMurut-based party, could have worked well with Warisan to unite the people for the advancement of the state.

“I can choose to work with many parties and many leaders, but I have to see which party (shares) the direction and struggle we want, (and) the same goes for the leader, whether he is good or not," he said.
