GE15: I'll take whichever seat I'm offered, says Khairy

PUTRAJAYA: Khairy Jamaluddin, who is speculated to be contesting in Sungai Buloh, Selangor in the 15th General Election(GE15), is ready to accept any seat allocated to him.

"I think all decisions related to election candidates will be announced soon.

"Let the party leadership announce it. I will accept any constituency given to me," the Health Minister told reporters at a press conference here on Monday (Oct 31).

He was asked to comment on whether or not he will be contesting in Sungai Buloh.

The Star reported on Oct 28 that Sungai Buloh had been mentioned as one of the possible constituencies where Khairy could be fielded.

Umno sources told The Star that there has been talk of Khairy, who is popularly known as KJ, contesting in the parliamentary seat, a proposal that has received a somewhat positive response from the grassroots there.

"Khairy is popular among the people, especially after how well he managed the Covid-19 pandemic. His popularity will get him the votes," a source said.

However, Sungai Buloh Umno division chief Datuk Megat Firdouz Megat Junid reacted with bemusement when asked about this.

"Where did you hear this? Even I haven't heard anything," he said when contacted on Sunday (Oct 30).

It was also speculated earlier that Khairy might contest in Kuala Pilah or Tampin.

Khairy said previously that he will not be standing in Rembau, the seat he has held since 2008, to make way for Umno deputy president and Rembau division chief Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
