GE15: I don't know any other place, says incumbent Hisham on plans to contest Sembrong seat

SHAH ALAM: Incumbent Sembrong MP Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein plans to compete for the seat again in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).

Hishammuddin, who is also the caretaker Defence Minister, said he did not know any other place (to stand for a seat) in GE15.

"I don't know any other place and, as far as I know, the people of Sembrong have also suggested to the party leadership that no other name be nominated," he told reporters after sending off the first batch of Malaysia Battalion 850-10 to Lebanon for a peacekeeping mission on Thursday (Oct 27).

He said, however, that anything could happen and he hoped for the best and prepared for the worst.

When asked about PKR's recent announcement on high profile candidates for the GE15, Hishammuddin said he did not know what was a high profile candidate.

"Who determines if a candidate is high profile? In the end only the rakyat will decide.

"The candidate issue is exciting but in reality, the rakyat will only support those who do the work and be of service in their constituencies," said Hishammuddin, who has been serving as the Sembrong MP since 2004.

On Wednesday (Oct 26), PKR announced a number of high profile candidates for GE15.

Party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim made the announcement at a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Merchant Square, Petaling Jaya.

Among the candidates announced was Nik Omar Nik Abdul Aziz, the son of late PAS spiritual adviser, Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, who would be contesting in Perak.

Other big names included former Perak state secretary Datuk Zainal Azman Abu Seman who would also be fielded in Perak while Dr Noraishah Mydin Abd Aziz and Jufitri Joha are to contest in Negri Sembilan, Prof Datuk Dr Hassan Basri Awang Mat Dahan to be fielded in Pahang and Saipolyazan M. Yusof to contest in Selangor.
