Cops probe parents of kids in viral video for neglect


KUALA LUMPUR: A couple is under police investigation after two children were reportedly seen playing dangerously on a narrow ledge of a condominium window in Taman Setapak here.

Wangsa Maju OCPD Supt Ashari Abu Salah said that on Tuesday (Oct 25), police detected a viral video clip showing a four-year-old girl and a two-year-old boy playing on the ledge.

"The 10-second video shows the children dangerously on the ledge without the supervision of their parents.

"An officer from the Kuala Lumpur Sexual, Women and Child Investigations Division (D11) lodged a report and an investigation has begun," he said when contacted on Wednesday (Oct 26).

Supt Ashari said the children's parents were called up to have their statements recorded.

"We found that the parents were at home during the incident.

"The case is being investigated under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001," he said.

The investigation paper will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor once the probe is completed, he added.

"We advise parents not to leave their children unsupervised as it can be considered negligence.
