Cops: Bottles thrown as group confronts Muda supporters during Muar event

MUAR: An incident of provocation involving thrown bottles and firecrackers took place at a Muda event held in a restaurant along Jalan Bakri here on Saturday (Oct 22) night.

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the incident occurred at around 9.35pm when a group of people approached the venue.

"The people inside the hall came out to face off against the approaching group.

"Around 30 people wearing facemasks started shouting and throwing bottles and firecrackers," he said in a statement on Sunday (Oct 23).

He added that police would investigate the matter under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

"The public is urged not to speculate on the matter on any communication and social media platforms," he said.

In a Facebook statement earlier, Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said he "strongly rejects provocation and political gangsterism."

"I am just having a dinner event. Why is there a need for such provocation?

"When Muda members asked why they came from, they started to act violently.

"If they don't like (us) and want to fight, let's do that through policies and public service," he said.

However, they were stopped by policemen and Muda supporters.
