‘Dentist’ held for providing illegal services

MELAKA: A 22-year-old woman who apparently obtained a “degree” in dentistry after attending a seven-day course has been detained for providing illegal services. She had reportedly treated hundreds of people since 2020 after obtaining her “qualifications”.

The woman revealed how she had obtained the certificate from a so-called university when she and two others were questioned by Health Ministry officials during a raid at a two-storey building in Malim here on Wednesday.

Enforcement officer Dr Rosnah Atan from the ministry said the raid was conducted after a one-month surveillance following public complaints.

She said her team confiscated various dental instruments from the premises.

“The woman has been providing illegal dentistry services for the past two years and her clients arranged their appointment through social media,” Dr Rosnah said yesterday.

She said the so-called dentist would charge between RM1,200 and RM1,500 for dental veneers.

The case is being investigated under the Dental Act, Dr Rosnah added.
