GEORGE TOWN: MCA's Saw Yee Fung is on a mission to make things better for Bayan Baru in the 15th General Election.
The MCA spokesperson was handed the Barisan Nasional flags during the launch of the Bayan Baru Umno machinery as a token of that new beginning.
The 33-year-old actuary has her eyes set on the Bayan Baru parliamentary seat, in hopes to make it a better and safer place for its residents.
"If we work together and put our differences aside, we have a chance to represent the people as one.
"This is what the coalition stands for, a party for everyone," she said when addressing the machinery during the launch held at the Penang Golf Club in Bayan Baru on Sunday (Oct 16).
Saw, the eldest of three siblings, said she has been meeting locals in Bayan Baru over the past few months.
"They seem welcoming and have been positive about making a change.
"I know that it would be a tough fight as the majority was with the other party during the last election, but I am hopeful that people want a change," she said.
Saw had also visited flood-hit areas over two consecutive days.
"I visited Batu Maung on Saturday (Oct 15) and the area was flooded again today.
"Two days in a row; the flood issue is serious, and needs to be solved,” she added.
Saw, who lives in Bayan Baru, is a true blue Penangite who studied in Universiti Malaya with a masters in Economy.
Bayan Baru Umno chief Datuk Mansor Musa, who launched the machinery, said although it has not been announced officially and there is no paperwork as of now, Saw was the likely candidate for the parliamentary seat.
"Our wait is almost over for the election as many have asked us about the dates and now we know it will be soon.
"We still have to wait it out for the state election as that will not be happening in Penang for now.
"Being a representative is no easy task, the people's expectations are high.
"You need to be committed to the people and with the young voters now, the narrative has to change.
"We will work hard to make sure the candidate chosen is successful," he said.
PKR’s Sim Tze Tzin is the incumbent MP for Bayan Baru.
