Politicians, MPs drop hints of Parliament dissolution as expectations heat up

PETALING JAYA: As politicians across the divide drop hints all over social media that Parliament's dissolution is imminent, expectations are high that Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will make an announcement on Monday (Oct 10).

For the moment, however, the Prime Minister is only scheduled to make an appearance at MIC's annual general meeting in the evening.

He is also expected to attend Umno's supreme council meeting at night, with sources saying the 15th General Election (GE15) is high on the agenda.

Umno supreme council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi posted on social media that the new moon has been sighted in Putrajaya, indicating it is “Raya” or “Pilihanraya” (election).

Meanwhile, Umno and Barisan Nasional Youth chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki tweeted that “10.10.20 (sic) is a beautiful date.”

Bangi MP Ong Kian Ming tweeted Sunday (Oct 9) night that it could be his last evening as a sitting MP.

“Last evening as a Member of Parliament for P102 Bangi? If so, it has been an honour serving the voters of Balakong, Kajang and Bangi for the past 4 1/2 years. Apologies for my shortcomings. I will be campaigning hard for my successor to defend the seat for DAP and PH,” he tweeted.

Ong also wrote that he will be campaigning for Syahredzan Johan, who is said to be the candidate for the Bangi parliamentary seat in GE15.

Meanwhile, PKR’s Kangar MP Amin Ahmad posted on Facebook: “PRU | Almost certain.”

DAP Secretary-general and Seremban MP Anthony Loke said Sunday night he was on his way back to Kuala Lumpur after a series of events in the north to prepare for the dissolution of Parliament on Monday (Oct 10).

Ismail Sabri had an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on Sunday, sparking another round of speculation that Parliament will be dissolved very soon.

This is the second time the Prime Minister has had an audience with the King in four days, the last being on Thursday (Oct 6).

It was previously speculated that Parliament would be dissolved before Budget 2023, but that did not happen and the Budget was tabled on Friday (Oct 7).
