Maulidur Rasul Award includes Chinese mom


KUALA LUMPUR: The Perdana Maulidur Rasul Award 1444H/ 2022 M goes to corporate figure Tan Sri Syed Zainal Abidin Mohd Tahir, while the Icon of Ibu Sejati (True Mother) was awarded to Chee Hoi Lan for raising a Muslim.

Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah granted the awards at the National Maulidur Rasul celebrations this year at World Trade Centre here on Sunday (Oct 9) in conjunction with Prophet Muhammad' birthday.

Syed Zainal Abidin, who holds various posts in the corporate sector and non-governmental organisations, was honoured for his contributions in various fields involving Muslim welfare.

Chee, a non-Muslim, was chosen as an icon for her motherly love in raising Rohana Abdullah as a Muslim, who was abandoned by her mother as an infant.

Rohana, who was stateless, was awarded Malaysian citizenship in April after her case was taken up by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The others who were also awarded icon awards at the celebrations today were Hushim Salleh (Motivation and Counselling), Syazrina Azman (Humanity Activist), Datuk Mohd Khay Ibrahim (Muslim Corporate), Ahmad Noor Sulaiman (Islamic Media) and Prof Datuk Dr Azizan Baharudin (Science and Civilisation).
