Four nabbed, drugs worth RM168,000 seized in George Town raids

GEORGE TOWN: Police here seized drugs worth RM168,034 and arrested four suspects in three raids within the span of six hours.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong said three men and a woman were arrested in separate raids by the district Narcotics Crime Investigation Department between 2.30pm and 8.30pm on Sept 28.

"The first raid was at a condominium in Jelutong where a 27-year-old local man and 29-year-old foreign woman were arrested after police seized three packets labelled 'Orange Tang' containing 65g of MDMA and six erimin 5 pills weighing 1.69g.

"Interrogation of the duo led police to a house in Weld Quay, where a 23-year-old man was arrested after 131 packets containing 3.085kg of MDMA and 22g of ketamine were found.

"In the third raid, we stopped a car in Jalan Tunku Kudin 2 in Gelugor.

"As police approached the car, the suspect sped off and attempted to ram a patrol vehicle in an attempt to flee.

"We eventually arrested the driver and found 123 ecstasy pills weighing 51.02g and 10 packets of ketamine weighing 35.33g," he said in a statement on Monday (Oct 3).

ACP Soffian said one suspect's urine test came back positive for drugs but none of the four had a criminal record.

"The drugs seized were 3.15kg of MDMA worth RM157,500, 57.33g of ketamine worth RM8,599, 51.02g of ecstasy pills worth RM1,845, and 1.69g of erimin 5 pills worth RM90.

"RM1,150 in cash and two vehicles worth RM128,000 were also seized.

"We believe the syndicate has been active since June last year and the drugs were being supplied to the local market," he said.

All four suspects are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

They have been remanded for five days from Sept 29.
