GE15: Azmin ready to take on Anwar, family in Gombak

PETALING JAYA: Former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali (pic) has declared his readiness to defend his Gombak parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election.

The incumbent Gombak MP also took a swipe at Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, saying that he was willing to square up against the latter, his wife and daughter.

Although he stopped short of directly naming the trio, the Bersatu supreme council member gave some hints referring to the Opposition Leader.

"You are welcome to contest here. You can send your wife, daughter or even others. I will contest," he said during an event to launch Bersatu’s division meetings and its Selangor state election machinery on Sunday (Oct 3).

Azmin also listed events alleging to be Anwar’s own betrayals to the people, naming the failed “Kajang Move” and the Port Dickson by-election.

“Malaysians, please remember. History cannot be erased,” said Azmin, who is also International Trade and Industry Minister.

This came after Anwar had hinted that he would contest a seat held by one of the "traitors" to Pakatan Harapan in GE15.

"I have to pick areas held by traitors. This is a message that treachery in politics is not acceptable," said the PKR president, who did not reveal which parliamentary seats he would be contesting.

In February 2020, Azmin led an exodus of 10 MPs in an event dubbed as the "Sheraton Move" that saw the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government after merely 22 months in power.

Among the traitors that Anwar is believed to be referring to are Azmin, Foreign Minister and Indera Mahkota MP Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah and Segamat MP Datuk Seri Edmund Santhara Kumar Ramanaidu, who is also Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister.
