Police: Kidnap bid on Ipoh schoolgirl is fake

IPOH: The purported attempt to kidnap a pupil outside SK Pengkalan in Taman Pinji Mewah here is false, police say.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said investigations found that the nine-year-old girl had concocted a story about the incident and told it to her mother.

"We spoke to five people, including a classmate and friends, security guards and a van driver.

"There was no attempted kidnapping," he told a press conference at state police headquarters here on Tuesday (Sept 27).

"The child was influenced by social media posts and videos about kidnapping for organ harvesting.

"She created the story so that police would take action," he added.

It was reported that the child's father said in a Facebook post on Friday (Sept 23) that his daughter was almost abducted in front of the school.

The girl's mother lodged a report on the same day.

After the "incident" went viral, police set up a special task force to look into it.
