Cops probing attempt to kidnap Ipoh schoolgirl

IPOH: Police are investigating a viral video showing the attempted kidnapping of a student outside Sekolah Kebangsaan Pengkalan, Taman Pinji Mewah here on Sept 23.

Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said they received a report on the incident from the victim's mother at 9pm the same day.

"We have formed a special investigation team to look into the case. We are also working closely with the state Education Department and the school to improve crime prevention and safety measures.

"Parents are urged to drop off and pick up students at stipulated times and inform the school if they have any problems doing so," he said in a statement on Monday (Sept 26).

"Schools also have to ensure that students are only picked up and dropped off by parents and guardians only.

"We will also deploy police officers across Perak as liaison officers to schools," he added.

The video of the said incident was posted by the parents of the girl, who managed to escape her would-be kidnappers. – Bernama
