TAPAH: MCA wants to regain the Chenderiang state seat in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Its deputy president Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said MCA was targeting to win the seat by a majority of more than 4,000 votes.
In the last elections, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, then with Pakatan Harapan, defeated Barisan Nasional’s Chong Shin Heng and Nordin Hassan of PAS by just 39 votes.
Speaking at the launch of the Tapah Barisan Nasional election machinery at Arena Merdeka here yesterday, Dr Mah said they managed to regain some “white voters” or definite voters of Barisan in the constituency, having lost them during the 14th General Election.
“About 2,500 of our white voters did not come out to vote then.
“We have regained a number of our white voters and we want to perform better,” he said, adding that they had been working hard.
“Even Perak MCA Youth chief Daniel Wa, who is not a candidate (in Chenderiang), came to assist.
“This is the spirit of comradeship and loyalty that we should have to win back Chenderiang.”
Dr Mah, who is also Tapah MCA chairman, said Chong, the special assistant on Chinese affairs for the Perak Mentri Besar, had been working hard in the constituency.
The party division, he said, was in high spirits and ready for “war”.
“This area (Tapah) has always been talked about by party leaders as we had representatives from Umno, MCA and MIC before we lost Chenderiang.
“We are ready to win Chenderiang back and defend Tapah (parliamentary seat) and Ayer Kuning (state seat) with a stronger majority,” he added.
