Covid-19 Watch: 2,070 new cases detected, total now at 4,828,290


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 2,070 new Covid-19 cases on Friday (Sept 23), bringing the total number of infections in the country to 4,828,290 since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry's CovidNow portal reported that 2,067 of Friday's new Covid-19 cases were locally transmitted while there were three imported infections.

The portal also reported that 2,009 recoveries from Covid-19 were reported on Friday, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country since the pandemic began to 4,766,228.

There are currently 25,717 active Covid-19 cases in the country, with 24,528, or 95.4% of active cases, observing home quarantine.

A total of 1,134 Covid-19 patients, or 4.4% of active cases, are seeking treatment at hospitals nationwide, with 54 individuals, or 0.2%, warded in intensive care units (ICU).

Of those warded in ICU on Friday, 21, or 0.1%, are unventilated while the remaining 33 require ventilator support.

Malaysia's current ICU utilisation rate stands at 60.4%, with Covid-19 patients accounting for 14.7% of the national ICU utilisation rate.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that there were three deaths due to Covid-19 on Friday, including one classified as "brought-in-dead".

This brings the total number of Covid-19 fatalities in the country to 36,345 since the pandemic began.

Two Friday's Covid-19 deaths were recorded in Johor, while there was one detected in Perak.
