MELAKA: State Commercial Crime chief Supt E. Sundra Rajan surprised policemen manning the roadblock leading to the venue of the Malaysia Day celebration at Bandar Hilir here when he wore a full traditional attire.
Wanting to be early for the event, he decided to drive to the Declaration of Independence Memorial Square from the Melaka police headquarters at Bukit Beruang.
“Police officers were given the opportunity to wear their respective traditional attires for the celebration,” he said when met at the main entrance of the celebration on Friday (Sept 16).
Supt Sundra said he bought the attire sometime ago and only used it once during this year’s Police Day celebration in Jasin.
“This is the second time I am wearing it for an official event,” he said.
Supt Sundra said enforcement officers could not recognise him when he stopped at the roadblock before entering the venue.
“I drove to the venue in my own car as my driver also wanted to witness the celebration with his family since it is being held for the first time in Melaka,” he said.
Supt Sundra said he wanted to be early for the celebration and to beat the traffic congestion.
The celebrations this year – held after two years of gloom caused by the pandemic – will be a “retro” one, featuring 1950s and 1960s fashion.
Visitors are encouraged to come in the fashion wear of that era to add more merriment to the event at the Independence Declaration Memorial Square in Bandar Hilir.
