Uphold language, culture and national identity at all times, PM tells students


SUNGAI BESI: Efforts to uphold national identity, language and culture must always be maintained given their important role in nation-building, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Prime Minister told Keluarga Malaysia students that identity, language and culture also give meaning to independence.

He urged them to give their full commitment to uphold the Malay language as a way to express love for the country.

"I also use the Malay language when I give my speeches at international platforms," he said in his speech at Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) on Thursday (Sept 15).

He also praised filmmaker U-Wei Saari for using the Malay language at the Moscow International Film Festival recently.

Citing another example, the prime minister said that Muar-born Sam Lim, who was elected as Tangney MP, had also used the Malay language in Australia's House of Representatives.

In the context of higher education, Ismail Sabri said there are many other ways to express patriotism.

"The most important challenge for students at this time is to continue to ensure the multicultural relationship of Keluarga Malaysian remains close," he said.
