A STUDENT who obtained a perfect CGPA score of 4.0 in her recent Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) despite financial difficulties could not share her happiness with her mother, who passed away this week, reported Utusan Malaysia.

Salmah Aminudin, 20, said that her mother, Romlah Tasu, 56, who was in a nursing home called her on Monday and said she missed her and wanted to hug her.

Salmah said that she tried calling her mother numerous times after receiving her results because she wanted to tell her about the offers and scholarships she had received to continue her education at a university.

“My wish was not fulfilled when I was informed that my mother had died of asthma,” Salmah added.

“I was shocked by the realisation that I would never meet, hug, nor celebrate my triumphs with her.”

Salmah initially did not want to continue her studies due to financial issues, but after receiving several offers of assistance, she decided to do so.

“It is sad that she could not celebrate this with me,” she said.

Salmah said that she hopes her mother’s passing would not discourage her from completing her studies at a university as she had received several offers from public higher education institutions.

“I hope that by continuing my studies I will be able to change my future for the better.” said Salmah.

“I feel that my experience with poverty has made me more mature and capable of facing challenges.”

> Actor and model Zoey Rahman disputed claims that he had undergone cosmetic procedures such as Botox when he was questioned by netizens about the noticeable changes on his face after he uploaded a video on social media, reported Utusan Malaysia.

Zoey, 37, who rose to fame in the television programme, Gerak-Geri Gasing, stated that his face might seem different due to ageing or the photo editing software and filters used in social media.
