Car carrier catches fire, destroying five vehicles on NSE

REMBAU: Five brand new cars were destroyed in a fire while being transported to Penang from its assembly plant in Alor Gajah.

Rembau OCPD Deputy Supt Hazri Mohamad said the carrier transporting the cars caught fire at KM227.2 of the North-South Expressway near here around 5.30pm Tuesday (Sept 6).

He said another brand new car was partially damaged in the incident.

"We were told that the carrier had experienced some technical problem with its braking system which could have caused the fire.

"There were six cars on the carrier," he said in a statement.

DSP Hazri added that the incident caused a 3km traffic congestion along the northbound NSE.

The Fire and Rescue Department had to temporarily close all three lanes to put out the blaze.
