Baling floods: 27 houses in Kampung Padang Empang submerged

ALOR SETAR: A total of 27 houses at Kampung Padang Empang have been submerged by floods after continuous rain since 5pm at Baling on Tuesday (Sept 6).

Baling OCPD Supt Shamsudin Mamat said some 120 victims has been evacuated to temporary relief centre (PPS) at Dewan Kampung Padang Empang.

"Flood water is starting to rise at Kampung Bendang Bechah and Kampung Hangus currently, villagers are advised to be relocated temporary," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Supt Shamsudin said the temporary Bailey bridge that was built after the July 4 tragedy was not only submerged in the water but partly damaged due the strong current of the river.

Supt Shamsudin said the road and the bridge have been closed to the traffic.

He said although the rain has stopped since 6pm the police and agencies under Disaster Operation Control Centres (PKOB) would monitor the situation.

He said currently the villages along the Iboi Range to Kampung Hangus were still on alert as there was still a strong current at Sungai Kupang and it is expected to hit the areas in Kupang.

On July 4, the floods and water surge phenomenon affected 12 villages in Baling including Kampung Iboi and Kampung Masjid Iboi.

The flood also claimed three lives including a pregnant woman.
