Khairy ignores Loke's prediction of fierce battle in Seremban

KUCHING: Khairy Jamaluddin has poured cold water on Anthony Loke's prediction of a fierce battle in Seremban if he decides to contest there in the 15th General Election.

He declined to comment on the possibility of him contesting in Seremban in GE15.

When asked by newsmen for comment on the DAP secretary-general's prediction, Khairy said: "Tak payahlah (there's no need)."

The Health Minister was speaking at a press conference after witnessing a memorandum of understanding between Clinical Research Malaysia, Novartis Malaysia and the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) here on Monday (Sept 5).

Earlier Monday, Loke said Seremban would be one of the hottest seats in GE15 if Khairy contests there.

Loke, who is Seremban MP, was commenting on a proposal by Seremban Umno Youth that Khairy should stand there.

Khairy had said on Sunday (Sept 4) that he was prepared to give up his Rembau parliamentary seat to division chief and Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, adding that in the worst-case scenario he would not contest in the coming election.

Khairy, who has been Rembau MP since 2008, hinted at this possibility in his speech at the MOU signing ceremony at SGH.

"For as long as I am your health minister, and if I have a longer life as your health minister after whatever happens after this, I will go all out and fight for you so that you get what you deserve," he said.

He was speaking about the need to do more to improve healthcare facilities, particularly in rural areas where there were dilapidated clinics.

"At the first clinic I went to, the post-natal building is no longer safe for use.

"And don't even speak about the quarters. I think this is a crying shame," he said of his visit to three clinics in Samarahan division near here earlier Monday.
