PETALING JAYA: DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke sees a fierce battle looming if Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin decides to contest in Seremban.
The Seremban MP was commenting on a proposal by Seremban Umno Youth that Khairy should stand there in the 15th General Election (GE15).
“Firstly, it's the democratic right of each candidate to compete in any area.
“Khary is a political figure of high calibre and a strong opponent wherever he contests.
“If he is contesting the Seremban parliamentary seat, the competition will be fierce and it will be one of the 'hottest' seats in GE15,” he said in a Facebook post on Monday (Sept 5).
However, Loke said, he was not afraid to face any challenge in his political struggle.
“I am ready to defend (the seat) even if I am faced with Khairy...
“Let the voters judge and decide whether I (am) qualified to represent their interests and voice in the Dewan Rakyat,” he said.
Earlier, Khairy said he was prepared to give up his Rembau parliamentary seat to division chief and Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
Khairy, who has held Rembau since 2008, said that in the worst-case scenario, he would not contest in GE15.
