Rosmah files appeal against guilty verdict

KUALA LUMPUR: Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor has filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal against the High Court’s decision to convict and sentence her to a 10-year imprisonment and RM970mil fine in the solar hybrid case.

The notice of appeal was filed via email through law firm Messrs Akberdin & Co yesterday.

According to the notice of appeal, the wife of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said she was not satisfied with the entire decision by Justice Mohamed Zaini Mazlan, who delivered his judgment on Thursday.

She is also appealing against Justice Mohamed Zaini’s dismissal of her application to recuse him from presiding over her corruption case.

She had filed the notice of motion to recuse Justice Mohamed Zaini on Aug 30 over allegations of a “leaked judgment”.

But the application was denied on the same day the decision in her corruption trial was delivered.

Justice Mohamed Zaini convicted Rosmah on three charges under Section 16(a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.

She was found guilty of one charge of soliciting RM187.5mil and two charges of accepting bribes – RM1.5mil and RM5mil – from former managing director of Jepak Holdings Sdn Bhd Saidi Abang Samsudin.

The bribe was received through her former aide Datuk Rizal Mansor as a reward to help Jepak Holdings obtain the Integrated Solar Photovoltaic Hybrid System project as well as genset/diesel maintenance and operations for 369 schools, worth RM1.25bil, through direct negotiation with the Education Ministry.
