Get scholarships, grants and rebates at the Star Education Fair

SUBANG JAYA: Students should invest in quality tertiary education despite the challenges of the pandemic, and there are many financial aids that can help them.

One such platform is The Star Education Fair 2022 happening at Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre from 11am to 7pm today.

The fair has gathered some of the biggest education institutions to offer scholarships, grants and rebates.

Lucky visitors who register may take home a foot massager and watches.

Education New Zealand director (International Market Strategies) Patrick Holden said there are bursaries for students to further their studies in New Zealand.

“Full and partial scholarships are available for international students at most universities in New Zealand,” he said.

New Zealand High Commissioner to Malaysia Pam Dunn, who attended the opening ceremony of the event, said many Malaysians who had studied in New Zealand had returned home to use their skills and knowledge as experts in their fields.

“Tan Sri Dr Mazlan Othman is an example of one such Malaysian.

“She was the first Malaysian woman to gain a PhD at Otago University. She then returned home as Malaysia’s first astrophysicist and later pioneered this country’s space programme,” said Dunn.

Eight of New Zealand’s top universities, Holden added, were present at the fair for the first time to share with students about the upcoming intakes and study requirements.

Education USA adviser Tahani Sofia Abdul Hamid said students can learn about financial aid opportunities for studying in the United States at the fair.

“There are a lot of financial aid options that people might not know of, and we want to share that information with students who visit us,” she said.

Universiti Tenaga Malaysia executive (Marketing and Student Admission) Arif Jauhari Mashkuri said students who register on the spot stand a chance to receive rebates.

“We are offering rebates for those who want to register for the upcoming September intake of our foundation and diploma programmes. They can get rebates of up to RM2,500 for their course,” he said.

Aero Malaysian Engineering Centre chief operating officer Muhammad Qamarul Audi said the institution has financial aid for students who want to be licensed aircraft maintenance engineers and technicians.

Students seeking a wider range of scholarships can also check out the Star Education Fund.

The closing date for students applying direct to degree courses is Sept 1.

Star Media Group events senior general manager Corinne Chieng said the Star Education Fair 2022 is a one-stop venue for students in search of their dream course.

“With countless opportunities for study, we strive to ensure students will be able to make informed decisions before embarking on the next leg of their journey.

“Besides face-to-face consultations with the various institutions’ representatives, students will also be able to join education and career talks by industry experts. I’m sure that they’ll find this most helpful in deciding on the course best suited for them,” she said.

Private home teacher Shorbana Martin brought her students who are currently pursuing the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) to the fair to expose them to the various tertiary education courses.

Shorbana said the fair helped expose her students to the fundamentals of certain courses such as business, pharmacy and applied science.

Admission is free for the fair that continues at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre today from 11am to 7pm.

Don’t miss out on the interesting talks happening today, such as “Why choosing the right course is important to pursue a fulfilling career” from 2.30pm until 3pm, and “How do I choose the best medical school for me” from 4pm until 4.30pm.

Visitors who register and attend the fair today stand a chance to win the OTO ePhysio EY-900P Foot Massager and Soleus GPS Watches.
