Aaron-Wooi Yik's success proves that M'sia can produce top quality athletes, say King, Queen

PETALING JAYA: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah express their congratulations to Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik for their succes in winning the World Badminton Championships.

Their Majesties also expressed their pride and joy at the historic success as the duo became the first Malaysian pair to become World Champions.

"The outstanding achievements of Aaron and Wooi Yik once again prove that Malaysia can produce quality and international athletes.

"It also proves that with commitment, high fighting spirit and hard work, Malaysians are able to compete and succeed at the world level," Their Majesties said in Facebook post on Istana Negara's official page on Sunday (Aug 28).

Their Majesties also expressed hope that this would ignite Aaron and Wooi Yik's spirit to continue training and working hard.

Earlier Sunday, Aaron and Wooi Yik created history by becoming Malaysia's first World Champions in Tokyo.

The world No.6 pair secured a superb 21-19, 21-14 over Indonesia's three-time world champions Mohd Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.
