Emulate Najib's fighting spirit to win GE15, Saarani tells Umno members

IPOH: Umno members have been urged to channel Datuk Seri Najib Razak's fighting spirit to ensure victory in the coming 15th General Election (GE15).

Perak Umno chairman Datuk Saarani Mohamad (pic) said the party always remember Najib's spirit and motivation in fighting for justice.

"Even though he is now imprisoned, that spirit will live on through party leaders and members to ensure the principles of justice, the pillar of this country, are re-established.

"I urge all party members not to give up and continue to fight like Najib so that Umno and Barisan Nasional will win in the general election," Saarani, who is also Perak Mentri Besar, said in a statement on Thursday (Aug 25).

He also said that despite Najib's incarceration over the SRC International Sdn Bhd case, he had still done a lot for Malaysia and this would never be forgotten.

"The (Federal Court) decision will not erase the memory of his contributions and service to the country and its people.

"While we have faith in the judiciary, we are sad that Najib wasn't allowed to submit new evidence in the case," he added.

On Tuesday (Aug 23), the Federal Court had on Tuesday (Aug 23) dismissed Najib's final appeal and upheld the Kuala Lumpur High Court's July 2020 verdict in the RM42mil SRC International case.

On July 28, 2020, the Kuala Lumpur High Court sentenced Najib to 12 years in jail and fined RM210mil after being found guilty of seven charges of criminal breach of trust, money laundering and abuse of position.

The Court of Appeal upheld the decision in December, and Najib then sought to have it overturned at the Federal Court.
