MOH detects five new education clusters


KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry detected nine new clusters for the week of Aug 13 to 18, with five involving education. The education clusters were detected in Selangor, Kelantan, Negri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

These included the Jalan Rektor Nilai 2 Cluster in Seremban with 38 positive cases to date.

High-risk group clusters (Johor, Perak, and Penang) and a detention centre cluster (Perak) are the other three new clusters.

Overall, a total of 7,060 clusters were detected since Covid-19 hit the nation more than two years ago, with 32 clusters still active, Bernama reported.

For the week under review, total new daily cases declined to 20,832 cases compared with 23,085 from Aug 6 to Aug 11.

This week, total new daily cases remained below the 5,000 level, with the highest at 4,334 on Aug 13.

On Thursday, a total of 4,071 new daily cases were reported, including two imported cases. A total of seven fatalities among Covid-19 patients were reported.
