No injuries after lorry and 4WD hit by train, hour-long traffic snarl ensues

KOTA KINABALU: An accident involving a train and two vehicles at Kepayan near here caused traffic congestion lasting an hour from 3pm on Thursday (Aug 18).

No one was injured in the mishap and police are still gathering information to determine its cause.

“We are still getting details as to what happened, what caused the accident and who was in the wrong,” said Kota Kinabalu OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaidi Abdullah.

He said a four-wheel drive (4WD) and a lorry were hit by the train that was bound for the city from Papar district.

The other vehicles were headed towards the airport area.

The accident brought traffic to a standstill as it was close to a traffic light intersection.

“Luckily, there were no injuries,” ACP Zaidi said.

The train continued on its journey about an hour after the accident.

It is learned the train driver will be called in later, together with the 4WD and lorry drivers, to help with the investigation.
