Enforcement officers checking the hoses used to transfer the subsidised diesel from one lorry to another.

PORT DICKSON: Enforcement officers have seized 17,000 litres of subsidised diesel from a secluded area in Kg Sri Parit in Lukut near here.

Also seized in the operation conducted jointly with the police on Wednesday (Aug 10) were two tanker lorries and related equipment such as hoses used to transfer the diesel.

State Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs enforcement chief Abd Muis Samsudin said the seized items were valued at around RM116,550.

"We also detained two suspects who were in the midst of transferring the diesel from one lorry to another using a hose.

"Upon inspection, we found that the first lorry had 9,000 litres of diesel in its tank and the other had 8,000 litres," he said, adding that the diesel was worth RM36,550.

Abd Muis said when questioned, the suspects could not produce any licence or valid document allowing them to store the diesel.

The case, he said, was being probed under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for storing controlled items at an unlicensed location.

He also appealed to the public to report to the department if they had information on such activities by contacting its call centre at 1 800 886 800, enforcement command centre at 03 8882 6088/6245 or emailing it to e-aduan@kpdnhep.gov.my.

In a separate statement, state police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Ruslan Khalid said the team also seized two helang merah (brahminy kite or scientifically known as haliastur indus) which was a totally protected species during the raid.

He said it was an offence under Section 68 of the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 to keep the birds without a valid permit.

Offenders, he said, can be fined up to RM100,000 or jailed up to three years or both upon conviction.
