Woman detained over damage to neighbour’s car after parking spat

AMPANG: A spat over parking in Taman Sri Keramat led to the arrest of a 56-year-old woman, who had allegedly damaged her neighbour's car.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the 36-year-old female victim noticed that her car's door and side mirror were damaged at about 1pm on Monday (Aug 8).

"She had parked the car in front of her home the previous night. The victim asked her neighbour whether she had damaged her car. However, the neighbour only asked the victim who allowed her to park her car at the location," he said when contacted on Wednesday (Aug 10).

Both women argued with each other but the victim did not want to worsen the situation so she went inside her home, he said.

ACP Mohamad Farouk added that at about 9pm on Tuesday (Aug 9), the victim was woken up by her mother, who told her that the neighbour had pressed the house's bell multiple times.

"The mother claimed that the neighbour admitted to damaging the victim's car as she had parked on a piece of land belonging to her," he said.

ACP Mohamad Farouk said the 56-year-old neighbour was later detained.

"The incident occurred as the suspect claimed the victim had parked on her land, which was quite near her flower plants. However, checks revealed that the piece of land belonged to the local authority," he added.

ACP Mohamad Farouk said both parties have been neighbours for nearly 30 years.

"We are investigating under Section 427 of the Penal Code. The suspect denied that she was responsible for the damage to the victim's car," he said.
