Tg Bidara exco pledges financial assistance for houses damaged in hailstorm


MELAKA: Tanjung Bidara assemblyman Datuk Seri Abd Rauf Yusoh walked several kilometres to assess the damage sustained by 58 houses hit by a hailstorm at Tanjung Bidara here on Wednesday (Aug 10).

He visited the four affected villages; Air Hitam Darat, Air Hitam Pantai, Pasir Gembur and Balik Batu.

The Melaka industrial and investment committee chairman walked several kilometres into the villages and pledged RM500 instant financial assistance to each of the affected homes.

Ab Rauf said he will also arrange assistance from the state government to be distributed to all the homes impacted by the hailstorm.

He said the help will be channeled soonest.

Meanwhile, villagers said the incident caused massive damage to their homes.

Fatimah Abd Rahman said her roof was totally blown off in the 9.40am incident.

Another villager Rokia Bakar, 60, said the villagers were last hit by hailstorm sometime in 1982.

"This time, the impact of the wind was ravaging and also frightening," she added.
