Jobless man jailed a year for stealing 20 mobile devices


SIBU: An unemployed man has been sentenced to one year's jail by a Magistrate's Court here on Wednesday (Aug 10) after he pleaded guilty to breaking into a shop and stealing 20 units of mobile phones and tablets.

According to the facts of the case, at about 2.30am on Friday (Aug 5), the owner of the shop at Jalan Bengkel received a call from an employee that the unit's shutter was open.

She then lodged a police report.

A police investigation found that the 23-year-old accused, Mohd Khairul Nizam was caught on CCTV together with an accomplice still at large breaking into the shop and stealing the items as well as invoice sheets.

At 8.10am the same day, a police team went to the accused's house in Kampung Hilir.

When he saw the team, Mohd Khairul reportedly tried to flee but was apprehended.

Police seized the 20 devices, invoice sheets and a motorcycle belonging to the accused.
