Residents in Belaga area cut off after road collapses

SIBU: Residents in Murum, Belaga are now cut off from the outside world due to a landslide which hit Jalan Murum on Friday evening (Aug 6) following continuous rain.

Belaga Fire and Rescue Department chief Helman Main said the landslide occurred at about 5pm on Friday.

"Damage to the road is about 90% and it is not usable to either small or big vehicles. We have also advised the Public Works Department to close the road completely to motorists," he said.

Main advised the people to temporarily use alternative roads such as those running through oil palm plantations while the Department repairs the road.

A 51-second video of a section of the road looking like a waterfall after it caved in has since gone viral.
