Fire damages school hall in Tangkak


TANGKAK: A hall at a secondary school near here was partially damaged in a fire on Tuesday (Aug 2).

Tangkak and Fire Rescue Department station chief Rafiah Aziz said the station received an emergency call at 12.52pm.

She said seven firefighters from the station were deployed to SMK Tun Mamat at Kampung Payamas Dalam where the fire broke out.

"A Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicle and an Emergency Medical Response Services (EMRS) vehicle were used in the operations," Rafiah said in a statement.

She said the fire damaged about 30% of the 100ft by 70ft hall.

Rafiah said the cause and the losses suffered were still under investigation.

The fire was put out at 2.18pm.
