Snatch thief nabbed less than 24 hours after robbing woman in Taman Melawati


KUALA LUMPUR: A suspected snatch thief was caught less than 24 hours after robbing a woman in Taman Melawati.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said that the victim was robbed at around 2.15pm on Sunday (July 31).

"An unidentified man approached her on a motorcycle and snatched some jewelry that was on her left wrist. Losses were estimated to be around RM2,000 and she was not injured during the robbery.

"At 12.30am the next day, police arrested one suspect in his 30s. Also seized was the motorcycle used during the robbery, a receipt from a pawn shop and some money," he said when contacted on Monday (Aug 1).

Checks showed that the suspect had five prior offences and he tested positive for methamphetamine as well.

ACP Farouk added that the suspect will be remanded on Monday.
