JOHOR BARU: Some 71,389 commercial crimes cases involving RM5.2bil in losses have been investigated by the police since 2020 to June this year, says Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat.

He said 67% of the cases involved online crimes.

"More than half of the cases or about 47,850 involved online fraud.

"For Johor, a total of 1,747 commercial crimes cases have been investigated and 90% of them involved online crimes," he said when launching an anti-scam campaign at a shopping mall here on Monday (Aug 1).

Comm Kamarul Zaman said the campaign aims at increasing awareness among the public about commercial crimes, especially those occurring online.

"This campaign also hopes to inform the public about the latest trends in commercial crimes which include Love scam, parcel scam, Macau scam and Internet scam," he said.

He added that crime prevention was a team effort and urged the public to also play their role in reducing such cases.
