Police Day celebration brings ‘men in blue’ closer to public

KUALA LUMPUR: The first ever Police Day road march brought our “men in blue” even closer to the public.

Police assets and demonstrations were shown off to the public during the day-long celebration at Dataran Merdeka.

Among the highlights of the event was a parachute display by the General Operations Force's VAT 69 commando unit.

Six operators jumped out of a police helicopter before making their way into the middle of the Dataran Merdeka field.

In a statement, Police secretary Deputy Comm Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said that the march was a partnership with DBKL and the Information Department.

“This initiative is a new and different approach to the Police Day celebration and is in line with our motto, ‘polis dan masyarakat berpisah tiada’ (the public and police are inseparable). The programme included a 50% discount on selected traffic summonses,” she said.

The event was launched by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah.
